Ambient Backgrounds
Air Sanih - recorded at midnight at Air Sanih, a large freshwater spring on the noth side of the island of Bali. The water flows out of old lava rock into pools and then out into the ocean. You can hear frogs, crickets, and the ocean in the background. :45
Arenal Eruption - a night time eruption of the Arenal volcano in Costa Rica. I was there recording ambiance for the IMAX films "Ring of Fire" and "Tropical Rainforest". :55
Cremation Procession - recorded at a large cremation in Selat, Bali, Indonesia where multiple bodies were burned in an elaborate ritual/spectacle. I was traveling with a film crew for the IMAX film "Ring of Fire". :48
Lamanai Parrots - Lamanai is a Mayan ruin in the heart of the rainforest of Belize. You can hear the parrots fly right over my head, while howler monkeys chant in the distance. :50
Maraba - while traveling in Brazil with the Baraka film crew, I recorded this deep jungle ambiance during the tree cutting sequence. :56
Monkey Chant - this was recorded at Besakih, the mother temple on Bali, for a sequence from the IMAX film "Ring of Fire". When the chant began, the film crew was totally unprepared for the power and beauty of the sound. Everyone just stopped what they were doing and listened. :57
St. Cecilia - St. Cecilia is the patron saint of Musicians. On a trip to Puerto Vallarta for the St. Cecilia festival (November at U.S. Thanksgiving time), I recorded this moment in the square outside of the central cathedral. The opening sounds are fireworks in the crowds, then I approach a Mariachi band. 1:19
Varanasi Street - also recorded during the filming of Baraka for the ghat sequence. The texture of mankind and machine is so thick, one can almost smell the environment. :54
